From the Fire

On a hot, dry, windy day in late spring, fire struck our small cottage on the St.Croix River in Minnesota. It was a scene of destruction and ruin, but also of salvage and discovery. Flames consumed the old 1930’s building but spared a tiny cup of a child’s tea set and the lines of a story buried in a fire tinged book. Sifting through the remains, I felt like an archeologist uncovering history, memory, some beauty and loss.
