From the Fire
On a hot, dry, and windy day in late spring, 2011, fire struck our small cottage near the St. Croix River in Minnesota. The charred ruin was a scene of destruction and loss, but also of salvage and discovery. With blazing force the fire tore through walls and glass, but somehow spared the lines of a story or a child's tea set. Sifting through the remains, I felt like an archeologist uncovering history, memory, and some beauty.
